Branson says Kutcher is space line's 500th client

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — British billionaire Richard Branson said Monday his venture to launch paying tourists into space has netted its 500th customer, and it's none other than Ashton Kutcher.

Branson made the announcement on his blog, saying he gave the actornike outlet store
a quick call to congratulate him.

"He is as thrilled as we are at the prospect of being among the first to cross the final frontier (and back!) with us and to experience the magic of space for himself," Branson wrote.

A representative for Kutcher did not immediately return a messageblue nike basketball shoes
seeking comment.

Kutcher is among dozens of Hollywood types, international entrepreneurs, scientists, space buffs and others who have made deposits to be among the first to reach the edge of the Earth on Branson's Virgin Galactic space line.

Branson has said the aim is to one day make traveling to space safe and affordable for the masses, not just those who can afford the current $200,000 ticket price.

Virgin Galactic is in the final stages of its test flight program. The company will launch its spacecraft from Spaceport America, a specially designed terminal and runway built in a remote stretch of desert in southern New Mexico.

The company plans to begin commercial operations next year. Branson said he and his children plan to be on the first commercial flight.

Christine Anderson, executive director of the New Mexico Spaceport Authority, congratulated Virgin Galactic on Monday for selling its 500th ticket. She said she's looking forward to "the beginning of the commercial passenger space line industry."

Virgin Galactic customers will ride in a six-seat spacecraft that looks like a small plane, with wings near the rear that sweep upward. Once the craft and its mother ship reach a certain altitude, the smaller craft is released and its rockets are fired, pushing passengers back into their seats for the trip to suborbital space.

The spaceship features two large windows for each passenger, one on the side and one overhead, and small thrusters that allow the two pilots to maneuver the ship once in space.

Customers will get a 2 1/2-hour flight with about five minutes of men s nike free run
weightlessness and views of Earth that until now only astronauts have been able to experience.

"I still sometimes have to pinch myself that it's for real," Branson said of the venture. "Ashton is joining a fast expanding group of true pioneers who are on their way to a life changing experience and a place in the history books."

MOVIE REVIEW: 'Hugo' too long, but a delight for the eyes and film buffs Read more:www.uggsuggboots.com

Martin Scorsese's "Hugo" is a children's film for grown-ups ---- grown-up film buffs.

It's a charming and quite gorgeous exercise in the few corners of the medium where the Oscar-winning filmmaker has next to no experience ----- children's stories, ugg boots minnesota ugg boots in minnesota ugg boots in houston comedy and 3-D. And even though it is too long and the master has yet to develop much of a comic touch, this adaptation of Brian Selznick's "The Invention of Hugo Cabret" is a stunning exercise in 3-D and a delightful celebration of Scorsese's lifelong love of the movies ---- something he, like Hugo, developed in childhood.

Hugo (Asa Butterfield) lives in the bowels of a Paris train station between the World Wars. He is an orphan who hides out, carrying on the job a drunken uncle left him with ---- servicing the huge clocks there. He slips in and out of the station, getting by on stolen food and drink, hoping not to be noticed by the station inspector, Gustav (Sacha Baron Cohen).

Hugo's a tinkerer, something he picked up from his late father (Jude Law). His favorite project is an old clockwork automaton, a wind-up man he tries to fix with parts stolen from the toy shop run by a cranky old man played by the great Ben Kingsley. When the old man catches Hugo, he seizes the boy's notebook, full of his father's drawings and fixes for the automaton. Hugo must work in the shop to win the notebook back, and even then, the mean old man may turn him in to the meaner wounded war vet Gustav, who patrols the station with a Doberman.

Isabel (Chloe Moretz) calls the old man "Pappa Georges," and even she finds Hugo dubious company, an excuse to try out her burgeoning vocabulary: "You're nothing but a ---- reprobate!"

Hugo must win her over (he takes her to the movies to see Harold Lloyd in "Safety Last"), elude Gustav and get back that notebook ---- his last tie to his dead father.

Scorsese uses this vintage Paris railway station set to stage marvelous 3-D chases, on foot ---- his camera following Hugo up ladders, down alleys, weaving through crowds. "Hugo" is the best looking 3-D movie since "Alice in Wonderland." The director peoples the set with character players (Richard Griffiths, Emily Mortimer, Christopher Lee), and sets in motion subplots about the lonely Gustav, the fate of Hugo's drunken uncle (Ray Winstone of "The Departed") and clues to the automaton's and Pappa Georges' past.

Moretz, slinging an English accent, is her usual delightful self, showing Isabel's love of words ---- "I think we have to be very clan-DES-tine!" It takes Cohenugg boots houston ugg arizona uggs outlet los angeles a number of scenes to make any sort of comic impression. And Kingsley makes the journey from ogre to charmer in his usual winning fashion.

But the story ---- period details and mysteries notwithstanding ---- is too slight to support this length. It's an 80-minute bonbon struggling to break out of a 2 hour and 10 minute souffle.

Still, movie buffs, especially fans of early cinema history, will be transfixed by scenes in the latter acts ---- movie-making, as it was being invented. It's why Scorsese choseuggs outlet in los angeles uggs outlet in illinois uggs outlet illinois to make the film and it's where his heart truly is with this material. And it's no surprise that this corner of his wondrous little picture is where he chose to make a cameo, immortalizing himself in the history of the medium he grew up loving and mastering.

Barca, Arsenal to show off beautiful game at its best uggbootssale-aus.com

In my latest column in The Sun-Herald, I explain why Barcelona should have the edge over Arsenal and why I think Spurs have a great chance against AC Milan.
"Barcelona … you took my breath away," sang Freddie Mercury and Montserrat Caballe to worldwide acclaim in 1987. Fast-forward 24 years and it’s not just the city which marvels. It’s another Barcelona - the football team - which is leaving people breathless.

Spell-binding, extraordinary, jaw-dropping; there are notugg winnipeg ugg ottawa ugg long island enough superlatives to describe the Catalans’ football. Winning games in style, they’ve been breaking records galore. Sixteen successive La Liga victories before their overnight match with Sporting Gijon; an average of 3.2 goals per league game - these are mind-blowing statistics.

Barca take on Arsenal in the Champions League in midweek. It’s a clash to savour. Both teams play adventurous football and some of the world’s best offensive players will be on show. Lionel Messi [37 goals in 31 games – ridiculous], Cesc Fabregas, Andres Iniesta, Robin van Persie, Xavi – the list goes on. But forget the attacking football if you will; this two-legged tie will be won in defence.

For all their prowess going forward, Barca’s great strength is how hard they toil when they’ve not got the ball. No team chases and presses like they do. Arsenal certainly don’t. Barca defend from the front, with the sole aim to win the ball back quickly. That way they barely give up chances. They’d only conceded 11 in 22 league matches before this weekend. Remarkable. Arsenal will find it hard to score.

And when Barca do have the ball, Xavi and Co. keep it better than anyone else, which is what makes them so lethal. Arsenal’s passing is fantastic. The problem for them is Barca’s is better. Combining exceptional technique with precise movement, they dominate games and slice through defences at will. Arsenal beware.

Surprisingly, Barca have only won two of their last 12 European away games. That will give Arsenal heart. But their defence is weak. Just look what happened againstugg lafayette ugg boots in edmonton ugg boots edmonton Newcastle last Saturday. From terrific to tragic in the same game. Shocking. The Gunners play with plenty of panache, but they are too easily broken. They have never beaten the Spaniards and it’ll be a huge surprise if they do so now.

Arsenal’s arch-rivals Spurs play AC Milan, the Serie A leaders - not much of a reward after winning a tough group. But the Rossoneri are beatable.

Spurs top-scored in the group stages with 18 goals [contrast this with Milan’s seven] and played very attacking football. And their pace and adventure could trouble the Italians, particularly on the wings.

That’s because first choice left-back Gianluca Zambrotta is out injured, while number one right-back Ignazio Abate is a fitness doubt. And their replacements aren’t up to scratch. Massimo Oddo is unspectacular, while Daniele Bonera and Luca Antonini have been unconvincing on the left. None offer any attacking thrust. And with rapid flankmen Gareth Bale and Aaron Lennon in their own ranks, Spurs would be well advised to play high up the pitch and get in behind. Milan are ripe for the picking.

The seven-time European champions are struggling to create chances as well. Two draws and only one goal in their last two league games before the weekend is testament to that. The midfield three have sat too deep and struggled to link with the frontmen. So if Spurs pack the middle of the park, they could pin their opponents back, and force them into a pattern of play - long balls - which doesn’t really suit Milan’s strikers.

If Milan’s forwards get the service though, they pose a serious danger to Spurs. They are all world class. Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been consistency personified, Robinho has impressed, while Alexandre Pato is a clinical finisher.

Both legs will be close, but a word of caution to Spurs.uggs outlet buffalo ugg st louis ugg sale toronto They must tighten up defensively. A gung-ho approach may have got them this far, but it won’t take them much further. Man United used to adopt a similar approach, but they got stung with a sucker punch one too many times. They changed their ways. Spurs must do the same, no matter how breathless they like to leave us.
